It’s difficult to imagine Paris without Shakespeare and Company– but now the historic bookshop is at risk of closing.
As the world reopens, we’re continuing to support local makers in cities worldwide – and we need your help
When we first launched our Love Local campaign back in May 2020, we pledged to champion small businesses all over the world – from restaurants and boutiques to storefront theaters and Instagram bakers. At the time, we couldn’t fathom where that mission would take us. Now, more than a year later, we’ve written about hundreds of makers, encouraged our readers to donate to on-the-ground charities and connected locals with a treasure trove of independent businesses. But our work doesn’t end there.
As the world reopens, it’s more important than ever before that we remain steadfast in our commitment to celebrate and support all things local. It means filling you in on the amazing new restaurants and bars that are springing up from the ashes. And getting you back to the cinema for this month’s blockbuster. And feeding you up-to-the-minute news about theatres reopening. And, perhaps most importantly, helping you fall in love with your city all over again.
Along the way, we’ll breathe new life into the mission by bringing the Love Local initiative into Time Out Markets around the globe – from Lisbon and Miami to New York and Dubai. In addition to curating chefs and entertainment, our expert editors will be spotlighting the soul of the city on real-life kitchens and stages. It’s an oyster-shucking demonstration in Boston, a street art installation in New York, drag bingo in Miami and so much more.
Why? Because Time Out has been seeking out the best of city life since 1968. We know that our cities are nothing without their shops, restaurants, cafés, bars, pubs, theatres, music venues, nightclubs, cinemas, art galleries – and all the other local, independently run places that us city-dwellers adore.
