Imagine if all it took for a quaint and history-packed Edinburgh trip to be followed by a culture-filled break in Paris was one direct overnight train. Now, make that overnight train electric and add some hotel pzazz to it. Dreamy, right?

Well, French train company Midnight Trains wants to make that a reality. The company is reportedly currently working to deliver its first service from Paris to Milan and Venice, which is due to launch next year. But, Midnight Trains has ambitions beyond that service: it wants to create a network of over ten European destinations, with plans to launch trains from Paris to Copenhagen, Berlin, and Edinburgh.

Talking to The National, Midnight Trains co-founder Romain Payet said: ‘We think that travellers are more and more conscious about the ecological impact of air travel and they need an alternative. But when travelling to and from most major European cities, they do not have this alternative.

He explained that their electric trains will be akin to a ‘hotel on rails’, offering overnight travellers on sleeper trains better privacy, high-quality catering, and digital services.

So far, a specific date hasn't been revealed for the launch of the Edinburgh-Paris service, but we’ll update this page with info when we know more. So, make sure you watch this space!
