There’s a new museum opening in Madrid, and it’s a world of pure imagination. In fact, although it’s called Sweet Space Museum, it’s more like an experiential, immersive gallery dedicated to all things candy – a little like New York’s Museum of Ice Cream.
The permanent exhibit will have nine themed rooms, with interactive exhibitions that you can smell, touch and of course taste: from candy floss palm trees to an ice-cream lab (run by local heroes Töto) and a lollipop waterfall.
What makes it even cooler is the fact that some of Spain’s most creative and colourful artists have contributed ideas and designs. Fashion designer Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada has created a sugary-sweet vision of heaven and muralist Okuda San Miguel has built a slide into a parallel world, while elsewhere there are sugar clouds by Antonyo Marest, a ‘video-game rocket’ by Ivanna Gautier and a candy forest by Christian Escribá.
Housed within the upmarket ABC Serrano shopping centre in the Salamanca neighbourhood, Sweet Space Museum promises that its displays will change regularly so that there are always new surprises. Tickets are on sale now ahead of the opening in October. So next time you’re in the Spanish capital, make time to drop by and feed your inner kid.
